I am new to cake decorating, but I have taken several Wilton cake decorating courses. I am by no means a pro, but I am very proficient. I have been baking cakes, brownies, cookies, etc... for many years, so I felt confident that I could learn to make a topsy turvy cake. Wrong!! The DVD did explain the process of carving and stacking the cakes very well. However, other than being told to use a "sturdy" cake, no other information was given about the type of cake recipe to use. I tried using a pound cake recipe, but the cakes are too flat, and I'd have to make an insane amount of batter to get the height required. I used a butter cake recipe b/c several web sites said it's a dense type of cake. However, it crumbled while carving the layers. So, without a cake recipe, or any more information about the type of cake batter to use, this was useless to me. To say I'm frustrated is an understatement. I just wasted 8 hours of my day and spent a lot of money to end up with a huge mess.

Have not seen the DVD as I live in South Africa and it could not be emailed to me. Had it sent to a friend in the USA who in turn has posted it to me. She assured me that it was wonderful so am most grateful. Can't wait for the parcel to arrive. Probably taking a chance in the post in South Africa but holding thumbs.This will certainly assist my daughter as she is a pastry chef and has many wedding cake orders for tosy turvy cakes.
